Wi-Fi is the name of a popular
wireless networking technology that uses radio waves to provide wirelesshigh-speed Internet and network con- nections. The term Wi-Fi is short for “wireless fidelity”. Wi-Fi works with no physical wired connection between sender and receiver. Wi-Fi networking became common in 1999 and works using radio frequency (RF) technology.
Wi-Fi transmits data using radio waves with the help of Wi-Fi router. Wi-Fi signals cannot be blocked by the walls and hence need to employ techniques to achieve secure data transfer. It has a range of about 20 meters (66 feet)indoors and a greater range outdoors. The speed of Wi-Fi is 1,000,000 data per second(Mega bytes per second)

Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) is a wireless
optical networking technology that uses visible light or infra-red light for data transmission with the help of LED bulbs.Prof: Harald Haas, from the University of Edinburgh in the UK, is the founder of Li-Fi. This technology does not have any
interference issues similar to radio frequency waves. In Li-Fi, light is blocked by the walls and hence will provide more secure data transfer. Coverage distance is about 10 meters. The speed of Li-Fi is 1,000,000,000 data per second. (Giga Bytes per second) and this technology was invented in 2013.
